A Note From the Editor
"Believe you can and you're halfway there." -- Theodore Roosevelt
When I first started quilting, I couldn't quite understand the concept of collections. My whole life, it was about the color, the print, which ones matched -- scrappy or multiple prints were definitely out of the question. I always matched blouses with pants and wallpaper with upholstery. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to take 40 or more fabrics in the same color family and try to use them together. What about contrast? What about the rule of one solid, one geometric and one floral when decorating a room or home? Didn't the same rules apply to quilting? I must admit, at first, I was totally befuddled with collections. And then one day I realized ... WOW!
Our theme for this issue is working with collections. Some of the most beautiful quilts are created using one fabric collection. It's sort of like a controlled scrappy project. You have an assortment of different patterns in different scales, and they are perfectly coordinated. Here's your chance to play with collections. If you are a traditional quilter, Fat Quarter Ripple, may be what you are searching for. We have two terrific baby quilts, Monkey Business and Baby Blossoms both stitched in whimsical collections that are perfect for gift-giving.
If you have limited time for quilting these days, you might want to check out the many timesaving smaller projects scattered throughout this issue. There are several projects that are a must, and you'll know exactly which ones they are as soon as you see them. We also have two great articles: Modern Batik Production and Batting Primer. I know you'll love this issue. It's full of great projects and lots of inspiration.
