I am so touched by the generosity of quilters. It seems that most are already finding wonderful ways to share their love of quilting to help or console those in need. If you are looking for ways to share your quilting with others, here are just a few of the letters I received. -- Carolyn
"I also tend to hoard material, so I formed a quilting group. We make quilts and donate them to Hospice. We have received many thank-yous from the clients' families about the quilts. It has been easier to let go of and share material knowing the quilts are dearly loved." -- Karen R.
"Our Turleford Quilting Club has a charity project each year. This year we are making personal clothing protectors (bibs), lap quilts and shoulder shawls for the residents in our nursing homes. Each member can create one or all three of the items using fabric from our own stashes; they can be as plain or intricate as we want to make them. In the past we have made Heart Bags (bags that pressure pads can be tucked into) for people of all ages who have had open-heart surgery -- same idea, plain or fancied up." -- Dianne B.
"You ask us how we use our stash. I am also working on that one. I am slowly cutting pieces from leftovers from clothing or quilting, and I'm planning to make a puzzle quilt. I am almost at the number of pieces I want to reach. Every piece (or almost every one) will be unique in the quilt. I'll also make an 'I spy' quilt for my grandchildren -- one for each family. I still have to finish the backing on those. So, it did make a little dent in my stash." -- Ginette
"To Susan who loves to make quilts and thinks she has too many: I'm right there with you. My two daughters say to me, 'Just how many quilts do you need?' I continue to keep busy with one after another. The closets are full, but there are so many challenges out there to create. Only other quilters out there understand the passion of the creative process and the delight of a job well done. Keep it up, Susan! I know that I will." -- Bonnabelle R.
