Introduction

Quilting has been around for a long time. Fabrics, techniques and styles change, but the basic construction pretty much has stayed the same. The big difference is in the reason quilters make their quilts.

Quilting has evolved from a necessity to an art. What was once a means to give warmth to one's family, using only discarded clothing, has presently become an obsession by many quilters for other reasons.

The need to create is a driving force for today's quilter as it was in the past, but now we have a wide selection of fabrics to choose from. In the past many quilters had to be very creative with limited supplies, but the results were worth it.
