Well, I hope you're ready for an adventure. If you haven't done a mystery before, you're in for a treat. You will need to sort your light and dark fabrics, 3"squares or larger, and press. Dig through those scraps and make them count. Once you have them sorted, follow the cutting instructions. The first step for assembly will be posted next week. Now, have fun!
Fabric Requirements
For the mystery piecing:- Wide variety of assorted light scraps
- Wide variety of assorted dark scraps
To finish:
- 3/4 yard for inner border
- 3 yards for outer border and binding.
Cutting Instructions
From the light scraps cut:- 48 - 4 7/8" squares
- 240 - 2 7/8" squares
From the dark scraps cut:
- 48 - 4 7/8" squares
- 240 - 2 7/8" squares
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each dark square, both sizes.

Sew two small squares together as shown in Figure 2. Sew joined squares to one side of larger half-triangle square as shown in Figure 3. (Figure 2 & Figure 3) Make 96. |

Step 3
Join three small squares as shown in Figure 4. Sew strip to top of unit as shown in Figure 5. Note color placement. (Figure 4 & Figure 5) Make 96. |

Step 4
Join four units as shown in Figure 6 for block. Repeat for a total of 24 pieced blocks. (Figure 6) |

Let's Put It All Together
From the inner border fabric cut:
Add inner border first, sewing the longer strips to the sides, and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Add outer border next, sewing the longer strips to the sides and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Layer, quilt, and enjoy! |
